The Kalpavriksha of Jyotirmath – A Landmark Tree of India: Its India’s oldest living tree, the Himalayan mulberry (Morus serrata) in Joshimath, Near Holy Badrinath in Uttarakhand Himalaya. The Guru Adi Shankaracharya mediated under this tree, who also renovated Badrinath Temple. Now a Shiva Temple is established under this tree and the tree has been protected using iron fencing by the forest department. Dr. Rau, then Deputy Director, Botanical Survey of India, Dehra Dun, estimated the age of this mulberry tree (Rau, MA 1967. The sacred mulberry tree of Joshimath, Chamoli, Uttar Pradesh. Indian Forester 93:333-35) and it was found to be of during that period, when Shankaracharya mediated in Jyotirmath now Joshimath. Joshimath,
