The Paper Bark tree (Melaleuca cajuputi) locally known as the Gelam tree, has white bottle-brush like flowers.

Its leaves are aromatic and contain essential oils.
The leaves are used to distill ‘cajeputi oil’ or ‘tea tree oil’ which has medicinal and antiseptic uses such as medical ointments.
